Are you curious about Centralia, Pennsylvania and want to do something to help the town?
Come join the Centralia cleanup crew on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 9AM to 2PM! Interested volunteers should stop by the Centralia Municipal Building in order to lend a helping hand. A hot lunch will be provided by Sexy Pig BBQ for those attending the event. You can RSVP for the cleanup on Facebook.
At the cleanup, volunteers will be removing trash from around the borough of Centralia. This is the second cleanup effort to be organized under the leadership of the Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation (EPCAMR) and Joe Sapienza II. The focus of the cleanup will be the area between East Railroad Avenue and Park Street.
The previous cleanup day, held in October of 2014, was a huge success. A group of eager volunteers removed 175 tires and nearly 5 tons of trash. See a photo gallery from the last cleanup day.
The upcoming Centralia cleanup is made possible by Mostik Brothers Disposal, who is providing the dumpsters, and Blaschak Coal, who has donated funds. Cleanup volunteers will be working alongside members of Aristes Fire Company #1 and Tom Hynoski from Centralia’s Hose Company.
Join the cleanup volunteers, and show your support for Centralia, PA!
Great job! We drove thru town and walked the highway with our grandsons after the Pioneer Mine tour July 6, 15. It was great to not be met by the sight of tons of garbage, We saw a few new drops from apparent 4th of July celebrations,. Suggest you put up some signs asking people to not litter and letting them know it took a lot of work to clean up.
“You enjoyed the views. Keep it nice for the people who come in behind you,”
