Cool Centralia PA Drone Footage

Centralia PA is fascinating to explore from the ground, as well as from the air. Here’s a cool, five minute video of the town as captured by Sean Swatsky using a drone. If you like what you see here, be sure to check out his other photo and video work.

The video of Centralia begins with the drone hovering above the east end of the mine fire burn zone, near where South Street intersects with Locust Avenue/Route 61. Along with the roads, the Saint Ignatius Cemetery is visible.

Next, the camera flies over the abandoned section of Route 61, also known as the Graffiti Highway. Besides all of the graffiti, it’s interesting to see the damage to the road, including fissures and subsidence. This is followed by the drone passing over Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Cemetery, and coming in for a landing on a gravel lot at the end of the burn zone.

The drone takes off again. This time it hovers above Centralia Pennsylvania, somewhere between Main Street and Park Street. The Centralia Municipal Building is visible in the distance. The camera pans and we get a 180 degree view of the town. At the end of the scene, Odd Fellows Cemetery is shown as is Saint Ignatius Cemetery.

The next scene begins with the drone taking off from a spot on the Graffiti Highway. Along with the hundreds of graffiti drawings, people are visible walking on the ruined road below. This is followed by a fly over of the burn zone, from a vantage point high above the ground and looking towards the west.

The video cuts back to the Graffiti Highway. Four wheelers are seen racing down the road, as the drone continues its fly over. The clip wraps up with another shot of the cemeteries and, finally, concludes with the drone landing on abandoned Route 61.
